ABOUT
Born in Scotland, Audrey immigrated to Canada at a young age and grew up in the picturesque city of Victoria, British Columbia.
Audrey always had an artistic and creative spirit, but it was after enrolling in a variety of university art courses that she uncovered her desire to become a painter.
While largely self-taught, Audrey has taken several courses with local artists who have influenced her painting style, yet her work reflects her own sense of whimsy and non-conventional creativity. Although her style is always evolving, the use of vibrant colours, simple imagery, and a naive sensibility exemplify her paintings.
Audrey enjoys painting in her home studio. She lives in Victoria with her husband and two daughters, juggling careers as a mother, a teacher, and a blossoming painter.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I have always thought of myself as an artist. Even during a long, creative hiatus, I couldn't ignore my desire to make art, and so, I became a painter.
I am drawn to bright, bold colours and basic images which is what unites most of my pieces. My paintings are lighthearted, yet layered with colour and texture which gives them substance.
More recently, I have been inspired and influenced by contemporary design and colour palettes. I love combining vivid colours like teal and lime green with earthy browns and green-gold, and throwing in a splash of bold red to give my paintings energy and bring them to life.
