A few months ago I painted this study piece. I received a lot of positive responses from people including my MIL [I have two MILs: Sean's mom, Janice and Sean's step-mother, Maggie]. Janice expressed a lot of interest in this one, so, as Christmas was coming, I thought I would paint her her own "Sleeping Beauty".
I began showing progress shots a while back, but thought I should try to keep it a bit of a surprise for her, even though she kind of knew what she was getting. So here are a couple of the "in-progress" photos of my latest painting.
"Sleeping Beauty" is the group of mountains that lay across the ocean from Thetis Island. Sean's family has been camping on the island for 50 years. It is a private spot that Janice and her parents started camping at when she was 12 or 13 years old. The view of the ocean and the mountains is so beautiful and calming. This section of the mountains were named "sleeping beauty" by Sean's grandfather who thought it looked like a sleeping woman. Janice has spent almost every summer on Thetis since she was a girl. Sean began going when he was just weeks old and has spent almost every summer there since. This is where Sean proposed to me. And "Sleeping Beauty" has been there for every moment of it.
MY ART: Now that my studio has been reorganized, I finally started painting again last night. I felt a bit rusty though. But my new light works great. I expect to get a lot of painting done over the next few days.
CONGRATULATIONS to my sister and her step-daughter who just became a mother to a baby girl on Sunday. At the ripe old age of 41, Pam is now the proud [step] grandmother of baby Addison.
Well, the year is winding down nicely. We had a great visit yesterday with old friends from out of town and look forward to a spending New Years together again, like old times.
